The human body was equipped with the means to fight off infection and disease

How the caveman Survived
When human-like creatures first populated areas of the old world, they were hunter-gatherers—subsisting on what they could find to eat from their environment. The “Caveman Diet” consisted of grasses, nuts, berries and on occasion—meat. The skeletal record shows paleontologist’s that these people were a hearty, robust, healthy breed.

The cro-magnons had not learned how to destroy their immune systems so—for the most part—infectious diseases were a rarity. But modern man has done an exemplary job of trying to undo all the work that went into the creation of human beings.

When early man discovered that he could gather seeds…and instead of eating them, he began to plant them, agriculture changed the landscape, and along with it, man’s diet. He grew corn and grains like wheat, rye and barley. Then he took his harvest and ground it into powder, mixed it into a paste and cooked it.

The Acid vs. Alkaline Controversy

Medical science tells us that the human body is alkaline in nature. But today’s dietary habits of many of us have become more acidic. Research indicates that an acidic body (acidosis) is responsible for much of the destruction of our immune systems.

Many of the most dreaded diseases and conditions have shown dramatic growth throughout the Western World. And even that is changing as some of the U.S.-born fast food businesses migrate across the globe.

T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D. and his colleagues developed what has become known as. The China Study-The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss, and Long-Term Health.

In reference to breast, prostate, and colon cancer (which represents 40% of all newly diagnosed cancers), their research revealed that high dairy and meat consumption, low dietary fiber, and highly refined carbohydrate intake each significantly promoted cancer. The study also references a 2001 Harvard review of 23 studies citing high dairy intake as, “one of the most consistent dietary predictors for prostate cancer in published literature.”

Here are two important findings from this study:
  • ·       Countries where more meat, animal protein, and sugar were consumed had far higher rates of colon cancer.
  • ·       Countries with the highest colon cancer rates were the same countries where less fiber was consumed.
This blog offers 7 tips to prevent cancer. Your doctor may have told you about some of these preventative measures—and maybe he hasn’t.

7 Steps You Can Take to Prevent Cancer…
  1. Quit smoking. I don’t need to elaborate on this.
  2. Eat mainly plant foods including legumes (beans), whole grains, and fruits. Plant foods provide an abundance of antioxidants and fiber, both of which are known to reduce the risk of developing several different types of cancer.
  3. Vegetables and fruits reduce the risk of developing cancers of the lung, stomach, esophagus, and larynx, while high fiber legumes and grains may help to reduce the risk of developing cancers of the stomach, colon and pancreas. The following alkaline vegetables are thought to be the No. 1 cancer-fighters: Broccoli,Cabbage,Brussels sprouts,Mustard greens, Kale and Cauliflower.
  4. Learn the difference between healthy and unhealthy oils. The healthy oils are extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil. Unhealthy oils include corn, cottonseed, sunflower, and safflower oils. The jury is still out on canola oil.
  5. Eliminate sugar from your diet. Sugar, according to some studies, is a basic cause of colorectal cancer in women. Not to mention that the American Diabetes Association said in 2010, 25.8 million children and adults in the United States—8.3% of the population—have diabetes, while 7 million people are undiagnosed and nearly 79 million have pre-diabetes. Sugar is acidic and high blood sugar is a big contributing factor in the destruction of the immune system.
  6. Keep off the extra pounds. The National Institutes of Health says that 1/3 of the U.S. population is overweight, and 1/3 of that number is obese. Obesity is a well-known cause of both endometrial and post-menopausal breast cancer. Obesity is also strongly associated with kidney, colon, and rectum cancers.
  7. Reaching and maintaining your optimal weight is a simple matter. What's not so simple is overcoming any emotional stressors that may be getting in the way of you balancing these factors. Counting calories is a boring, time consuming task. Eating an alkaline-based diet and limiting the amount of meat consumed—combined with moderate exercise will stave off cancer and obesity.
We can thank the industrial revolution for the environmental toxins that can be found in every part of our world. A clinical review in the February 2004 issue of the British Medical Journal suggests that up to 75 percent of all cases of cancer are caused by environmental and lifestyle factors.

It's impossible to avoid exposure to environmental toxins entirely, but you can strive to avoid exposure to some toxins and pesticides by avoiding processed, pre-packaged foods. When possible, shop for locally-grown, fresh vegetables. Wash them thoroughly before cooking—and eat as many raw vegetables and fruits as you can stand!
7.
The last point I will offer may be the most important factor that determines your risk of developing cancer. Emotional stress is highly capable of causing nearly every health condition known, most types of cancer included. You can have the healthiest diet in the world and still develop cancer if you are not emotionally stable.
There you have it. I didn’t say it would be easy. But nothing I have suggested here is outside the realm of possibility if you commit yourself to it.

Over the past year, two family friends died from complications from Type 2 diabetes. This fact, coupled with my wife being diagnosed with pre-diabetes set me to work researching diabetes as well as other health concerns that most people have.
Finding a realistic diet plan was part of my quest. I checked out numerous plans and the one I settled on is an alkaline diet that offers the best protection for restoring a damaged immune system or keeping a healthy one from harm.
Take a moment and check it out. The Acid-Alkaline Diet
